Why do so many think progressives are all Democrats?

You are right. They are in both parties which is one reason there is a Tea Party. I believe Mitt Romney is also a progressive. I sure hope he doesn't win the nomination for president in 2012. Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive and Republican. Bush Sr and Jr. Anybody who supports globalization is likely progressive.
