What the quickest way to raise your bounty in Red Dead Redemption without using a cheat?

I've tried killing everyone in sight and then I get on a roof in Blackwater and blast cops as they come up the ladder but it's taking forever and I still always get killed before my bounty reaches 5,000 so I can get the White Bronco achievement.
